Tasting Notes:

The minerality on the nose is followed by a sweet cassis and black cherry, iron. The palate shows incredible richness, a tight structure, and then a sweetness that will not only mesmerize but will open your eyes to the magic that is Rockpile Vineyard.

Awards/Notable Reviews:

95 pts Jeb Dunnuck "Another huge success in the vintage. From a great site in the Rockpile AVA of Sonoma County, its deep purple color is followed by a great bouquet of blueberries, iron, crushed rocks, ground pepper, and hints of smoked game. Structured and tannic on the palate, it reminds me of a young Cornas ... It’s seriously impressive, though, and should have 15 years of overall longevity."

93+ pts Wine Advocate - "Inky in the glass, it has bold scents of violet, tar, cassis and dried herbs with touches of menthol, milk chocolate and graphite. The full-bodied palate is dense and rich with a grainy frame and just enough freshness, finishing perfumed."

Winemaker Notes:

Named for my youngest daughter. At 2010 ft. elevation the Entav 470 clone from these two vineyard blocks add different components, one produces elegance and finesse, the other provides intensity and depth. Together they are truly a harmonious, textural experience. Both in flavors and aromas that are fresh, vibrant, deep, and always intriguing, just like my Haley.

This vineyard is 100% Sustainably Farmed. With elevation above the fog line, the steep, rocky hills and average temperatures from 50-80˚ provide a wonderful growing season, allowing for full ripening. Clay, loam, to granite quartz solis provide the wines with a strong mineral component. That along with the native yeast (RP 15) that I isolated from the vineyard many years ago provides character that is uniquely Rockpile.

I have been sourcing my Syrah from this vineyard since 2002.
